The oneK project is a housing concept that is part of a holistic approach to community development. It is the creation of sustainable, affordable, and livable neighborhoods, with the home as a key building block. Additionally, the concept recognizes that a vibrant community is comprised of a diverse mixture of ingredients, including people and the homes in which they live, but also the jobs that employ them, the businesses that serve that community, the schools that educate them, the public spaces in which they congregate and recreate. To develop and sustain themselves successfully, a community needs healthy neighborhoods, businesses, schools and public spaces. At its foundation is the “triple bottom line”, or the belief that true sustainability must consider not only environmental health, but economic and societal health as well.
