Morgan Loft

Downtown Birmingham, Alabama

As the director of the Auburn University Architecture Program’s Urban Studio, our client desires to reside in the downtown urban environment. Taking advantage of the structure of an existing warehouse, the goal was to create a simple, honest design expression – maintaining the integrity of the existing and clearly articulating the new work. A strong connection between interior and exterior spaces was desired, the central focus of which is a private courtyard. Passive strategies incorporated daylighting, heating, ventilation and cooling into the final solution.
